New Jersey A831 amends the state's civil service laws to permit individuals who served in the active military of the United States to be defined as a "veteran" or "disabled veteran" for civil service preference purposes, under federal or state definitions. This applies to those who apply for civil service preference after the bill's enactment. The bill does not affect the eligibility status of any veteran currently eligible for civil service preference.
