Introduced Text

Grants law enforcement officer benefits to certain campus police officers enrolled in PERS.

This bill expands eligibility for membership in the law enforcement officer (LEO) category within the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) to include certain campus police officers. These officers must be permanent and full-time employees of the State of New Jersey and not meet the age or medical requirements for enrollment in the Police and Firemen’s Retirement System (PFRS). By including these officers in the LEO category, they will be eligible for enhanced retirement benefits not available to other PERS members. The change takes effect immediately upon enactment.
