Introduced Text

New Jersey A596 requires public utilities to reimburse municipalities for police services needed for public utility projects.

New Jersey A596 mandates that public utilities must reimburse municipalities for police services required to ensure the safe completion of public utility projects. The reimbursement must occur no later than 60 days after the municipality submits the bill to the public utility. This requirement does not apply if a prior payment agreement exists under local ordinance. Additionally, in civil actions where municipalities seek recovery for financial losses from providing police services, the court may award reasonable attorney’s fees and costs to the prevailing party.
