Establishes geriatric parole for certain eligible inmates in New Jersey.
The bill establishes geriatric parole for inmates who are 65 years of age or older and have served one-third of their sentence, or 60 years of age or older and have served one-half of their sentence. The appropriate board panel reviews the inmate’s risk to public safety. Inmates serving a sentence for a sex offense or certain other offenses are not eligible. The denial of geriatric parole does not preclude an inmate from being considered for parole under current law.
