New Jersey A572 amends state law to authorize elected officials and their chiefs of staff to carry certain firearms while in the performance of their official duties. This exemption applies only for the duration of the elected official’s term. To qualify for this exemption, both the elected official and their chief of staff must complete a firearms training course approved by the Police Training Commission and annually qualify in the use of a firearm. The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment.
