New Jersey A5637 regulates the use of automated license plate readers by law enforcement.
New Jersey A5637 regulates the use of automated license plate readers and ALPR data by law enforcement officers. It requires law enforcement officers to obtain a judicial warrant before using or accessing ALPR data when investigating an individual or a motor vehicle identified in at least two locations by automated license plate readers. The bill exempts ALPR BOLO alerts from the warrant requirement. It mandates the automatic and permanent deletion of stored ALPR data within 90 days of collection.
