New Jersey A5624 mandates regular microbial testing of vended and packaged ice.
New Jersey A5624 requires owners of ice vending machines and ice manufacturing plants to test their ice product for fecal and total coliforms on a quarterly basis. The bill sets specific limits for total coliforms and requires zero fecal coliforms. If three consecutive samples are satisfactory, testing can be extended to once every six months. If a sample is unsatisfactory, the owner must revert to quarterly testing, clean and sanitize the machine or plant, and resample until satisfactory results are achieved. The owner must then test weekly until two consecutive samples are satisfactory.
