New Jersey A557 provides access to periodic cancer screening examinations for volunteer firefighters through SHBP physicians and other providers.
New Jersey A557 extends the reimbursement provisions available to paid firefighters to unpaid volunteer firefighters. It requires physicians who participate in the State Health Benefits Program network to offer cancer screening examinations to volunteer firefighters every three years. The examinations must include screening for various cancers, including colon, lung, bladder, oral, thyroid, skin, blood, breast, cervical, testicular, and prostate. No co-payment, deductible, coinsurance, or out-of-pocket expense is required for these examinations.
