New Jersey A5390 requires hotels, motels, rooming and boarding houses, and similar lodging businesses to check valid government-issued identification at check-in. This includes verifying the identity of guests or residents by physically checking or scanning their identification card. Valid identification includes a driver’s license, passport, identification card, or REAL ID. The lodging businesses must maintain a register of guests or residents, including their names, addresses, arrival and departure dates, and room numbers, for at least one year after their departure.
