Introduced Text

New Jersey A5148 mandates automatic recounts for elections decided by 0.5% or less of votes cast.

New Jersey A5148 revises election recount procedures. It requires an automatic recount for elections decided by a vote differential of 0.5% or less of the votes cast. The state will cover the costs of these automatic recounts. For elections with a vote differential greater than 0.5%, a candidate or a group of 10 or more voters can apply for a recount, provided they deposit funds proportional to the number of districts involved. If the recount changes the election outcome, the deposited funds are returned to the applicant.
