New Jersey A4948 prohibits pharmacy benefits managers from operating pharmacy practice sites directly or indirectly. The bill requires the New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy to assess active permits and notify sites that will violate the new rules. Sites receiving a notice must inform patients and healthcare providers 60 days before July 1, 2027, that they will no longer dispense prescriptions. The board can issue special permits for rare, orphan, or limited distribution drugs unavailable in the market.
