Increases penalties for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death or injury.

This bill increases penalties for drivers who knowingly leave the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death or injury. The fine for such a violation increases from $2,500 to $5,000, or $5,000 to $10,000. It also imposes a mandatory one-year suspension of driving privileges for a first offense and permanent revocation for subsequent offenses. The bill clarifies that ignorance of the extent of injury or damage is not a defense if the driver was aware of the accident.
