This bill mandates that food service businesses in New Jersey provide written notice of major food allergens in each menu item. The notice must be provided directly on the menu, in a digital format such as a quick response code, or on other written materials. Major food allergens include milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, soybeans, and sesame. The notice must use common names or standardized icons approved by the Commissioner of Health. The bill exempts prepackaged foods subject to federal labeling requirements.
