New Jersey A4809 amends the state statutes to impose a notice requirement for victims or their families when probation or suspended sentence changes or the defendant is discharged. The bill mandates that the probation division notify the victim or nearest relative of a homicide victim of any modifications or suspensions that shorten the defendant’s period of suspension or probation. Additionally, upon discharge from the period of suspension or probation, the probation division must notify the victim or nearest relative of a homicide victim of the defendant’s discharge.
