New Jersey A4732 requires operators of artificial intelligence companions to notify users at the start and every three hours during interactions that they are not communicating with a human. These notifications must be provided either verbally or in writing. The bill defines an AI companion as a generative artificial intelligence system designed to simulate human-like relationships through personalized interactions and unprompted questions. Violations of this requirement are subject to a civil penalty of $15,000 per violation.
