New Jersey A4617 provides for annual cost of living adjustments (COLA) to weekly workers' compensation benefits for those who became totally and permanently disabled from a workplace injury after December 31, 1979, and for the surviving dependents of workers who died from a workplace injury after that date. The COLA is intended to mirror the adjustments already in place for injuries occurring before 1980. The bill excludes public safety workers and their dependents who already receive a COLA. The COLA will not be paid if the individual elects not to receive Social Security benefits.
