New Jersey A430 amends existing law to ensure that only registered design professionals or employees with certified fire escape contractors can install, service, repair, inspect, and maintain fire escapes. The bill defines a "fire escape contractor" as a person or business entity that offers to undertake or represents itself as being able to undertake, or does undertake, the installation, service, repair, inspection, or maintenance of fire escapes. The Commissioner of Community Affairs is required to adopt regulations for the certification of fire escape contractors.
