New Jersey A4271 amends the "Predatory Towing Prevention Act" to prohibit towing companies from charging owners of stolen vehicles a fee to release their vehicles from storage facilities. Owners of stolen vehicles have 72 hours to retrieve their vehicles without incurring a fee. If the 72-hour period passes, the towing company may charge a fee for the days the vehicle has been kept at the storage facility beyond the 72-hour period. The fee to release the vehicle will be paid by the insurance carrier or, if the vehicle is not insured, by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.
