This bill increases the penalty for reckless vehicular homicide when the driver is intoxicated and the incident occurs within a highway construction zone or a designated safe corridor. Under the bill, reckless vehicular homicide will be upgraded to a crime of the first degree, punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $200,000, or both. The bill also mandates a minimum term of imprisonment, fixed at one-third to one-half of the sentence imposed, during which the defendant is ineligible for parole.
