Introduced Text

New Jersey A395 requires criminal history checks for officials at NJSIAA-sanctioned athletic events.

New Jersey A395 mandates that the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) require a criminal history records check for any person serving as an official at athletic events it sanctions. The NJSIAA must request the check through the Commissioner of Education, who will coordinate with the State Bureau of Identification and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the check. If a disqualifying crime or offense is found, the official will be disqualified from serving. The official bears the cost of the check.
