New Jersey A3819 requires 11th grade students to complete a United States civics course as part of their high school graduation requirements. The course must prepare students to become effective citizens, voters, and community members. It must include content on the fundamental principles and processes of democracy, and the governments of the United States, New Jersey, and local municipalities. The State Board of Education must ensure local boards of education include this course in their graduation requirements starting with the 2023-2024 grade 11 class. The act takes effect immediately.
