Permits excused student absences for mental or behavioral health reasons in New Jersey public schools.

This bill allows public school students in New Jersey to take excused absences for mental or behavioral health reasons. Students must provide documentation to the school to prove the absence is related to their health. The absence will be recorded as excused and will not affect their eligibility for awards or recognition based on attendance. The Commissioner of Education, in consultation with the Commissioner of Health, will develop guidelines for these excused absences. The bill takes effect on the first day of the first full school year following enactment.
