Municipal Volunteer Property Tax Reduction Act allows seniors to volunteer for property tax credits.
The Municipal Volunteer Property Tax Reduction Act permits municipalities to create programs allowing residents aged 60 or older, who have lived in their primary residence for at least 15 years, to volunteer for property tax credits. Volunteers can earn up to $1,000 per tax year. The credits are applied solely to municipal property taxes for the year earned and cannot be carried over. The credits are not considered for the homestead property tax reimbursement program. Municipalities must notify the Director of the Division of Local Government Services of the program's creation.
