Introduced Text

New Jersey A3456 allows certain firefighters to transfer from PERS to PFRS with municipal approval.

New Jersey A3456 permits municipalities, fire districts, or authorities to approve the transfer of certain firefighters from the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) to the Police and Firemen's Retirement System (PFRS). Firefighters employed by these entities on the effective date of the act, who were not eligible for PFRS at the time of appointment but meet PFRS's definition of "fireman" and are enrolled in PERS, can transfer memberships. The State will not be liable for additional costs incurred by local employers due to these transfers.
