Exempts municipal electric utilities from regulation by BPU in certain circumstances.

Introduced·2/1/24

Exempts municipal electric utilities from regulation by the Board of Public Utilities in certain circumstances.

This bill exempts municipal electric utilities from regulation by the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) when they provide electricity to customers beyond their boundaries. The BPU would retain jurisdiction to determine disputes concerning the service territory of any municipal electric utility. The bill aims to allow municipal electric utilities to recoup all operational costs without BPU oversight, except for disputes over service territory.
