Introduced Text

Requires counseling for certain domestic violence offenders in New Jersey.

In New Jersey, when a defendant is found guilty of a crime or offense involving domestic violence, the court must order the defendant to participate in and complete a program of professional counseling. This applies to cases where the defendant is found guilty, or where the court suspends the imposition of a sentence or places the defendant on probation for a domestic violence offense. The professional administering the counseling must have demonstrated expertise in individual or group domestic violence counseling.
