Establishes a rebuttable presumption of pretrial detention for defendants facing mandatory imprisonment or presumption of imprisonment.

This bill amends the New Jersey Bail Reform Law to establish a rebuttable presumption of pretrial detention for defendants facing mandatory imprisonment or a presumption of imprisonment. The presumption applies when a prosecutor files a motion for pretrial detention. The defendant can rebut the presumption with proof, and if not rebutted, the court may order detention. The bill also applies the presumption to defendants charged with firearms offenses, domestic violence, and crimes with an 85 percent mandatory minimum sentence.
