Allows surviving spouses of retired Police and Firemen’s Retirement System members to enroll in State Health Benefits Program and continue pension.
This bill allows the surviving spouse of a retired member of the Police and Firemen’s Retirement System (PFRS) to enroll in the State Health Benefits Program and continue receiving pension benefits after remarriage if the injury causing the disability or related complications significantly contributed to the retired member’s death. The State will cover the annual premiums for the surviving spouse and any dependent children. The State will also be responsible for any increase in contributions to the retirement system due to the continuation of the pension benefit after remarriage.
