Increases accidental disability and accidental death pensions in the Police and Firemen’s Retirement System when caused by a weapon.
This bill amends the Police and Firemen’s Retirement System (PFRS) to increase accidental disability and accidental death pensions when the disability or death is caused by a weapon. Specifically, it raises the pension for a permanently disabled member injured by a weapon from 66 percent to 100 percent of final compensation, and to 80 percent upon reaching mandatory retirement age. For accidental deaths caused by a weapon, the pension for the surviving spouse or children increases from 70 percent to 75 percent of final compensation.
