New Jersey A2808 increases penalties for identity theft when the victim is a senior citizen or veteran.

New Jersey A2808 increases penalties for identity theft when the victim is a senior citizen or veteran. The bill raises the severity of penalties based on the number of victims and the amount of benefit obtained. For offenses involving records from a continuing care retirement community, nursing home, retirement community, or veterans’ facility, the penalties are increased. A first offense involving a single victim and a benefit of less than $500 would be a third degree crime if the victim is a senior citizen or veteran.
