Addi's Law, named in honor of Merry Abernathy, requires the Division of Child Protection and Permanency to file a petition to terminate the parental rights of a parent convicted of murdering the other parent of their child. The law also allows consideration of whether the parent was a victim of domestic violence or believed they were acting in self-defense or defense of their children at the time of the offense. This bill amends existing law to include such convictions as grounds for termination of parental rights.
