Introduced Text

Permits hiring police officers prior to taking training course.

The bill allows municipal or county police departments to hire probationary entry-level police officers before they complete a Basic Course for Police Officers training course. The Civil Service Commission will exempt these individuals from the requirement to take an examination for an entry-level law enforcement position. The person must complete the training course within nine months from the date of hire, with an option to extend the limit by six months under certain conditions. Upon successful completion of the course, the person will be promoted to an entry-level police officer.
