Introduced Text

Expands involuntary commitment clinical testimony requirement to include nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

This bill expands the involuntary commitment clinical testimony requirement to include a wider range of mental health service providers. Currently, only psychiatrists are permitted to testify at court hearings for involuntary commitment. The amendment allows nurse practitioners and physician assistants to testify if they have conducted a personal examination of the patient within five days prior to the hearing. The patient's next-of-kin may also attend and testify if the court permits.
