Introduced·1/13/26
Introduced Text

Permits use of preferred names on student diplomas in New Jersey schools and institutions.

This bill allows graduating students in New Jersey to request that their diplomas list their preferred names. Schools and institutions are not required to provide legal documentation to demonstrate a legal name or gender change for this purpose. Schools and institutions may deny a preferred name request if the name is intended to misrepresent the person’s identity, avoid a legal obligation, harm the reputation or interests of the school, or be derogatory, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate.
