New Jersey A2290 allows individuals aged 18 or older, emancipated minors, or authorized representatives to create voluntary nonopioid directives, which prohibit the administration or prescription of opioids. The directive must be on a form developed by the Department of Health and published on its website. Health care professionals, facilities, and their employees are immune from liability for actions taken in good faith in accordance with the directive. Opioids may still be administered if medically necessary.
