Introduced Text

New Jersey A229 requires public utilities to notify customers of rate increase requests and revises public hearing requirements.

New Jersey A229 mandates that public utilities notify customers of any proposed rate increases. These notices must be included in the bills sent to customers and published in newspapers with substantial readership in each county where the utility operates. The bill also revises the requirements for public hearings on proposed rate increases, specifying that such hearings must be held in the municipality with the largest population in the affected area. If multiple counties are affected, hearings must be held in the largest municipality of each affected county.
