This bill creates an EMS Part in the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) to provide enhanced pension benefits for emergency medical services employees. Members of the EMS Part include those serving in positions such as emergency medical technician, paramedic, and mobile intensive care nurse. The State will be liable for any increased pension costs to counties or municipalities as a result of this bill. Members will receive a service retirement allowance, including an annuity and a pension.
