New Jersey A2072, known as the "Property Owner’s Protection Act," strengthens defenses against fraudulent deed recordings. It mandates county recording officers to notify property owners when a deed transfer is recorded for their property. To facilitate this, property owners can submit their preferred mailing or email addresses to the recording officer. The bill also requires an affidavit of title from the person recording the deed and allows the recording officer to collect an additional $2 fee per deed to cover notification costs. The act takes effect three months after enactment.
