Introduced Text

New Jersey A1920 mandates that media outlets participating in the Silver Alert System broadcast alerts for missing persons with dementia or cognitive.

New Jersey A1920 requires participating media outlets to broadcast distinctive sound tones and specific statements during Silver Alerts, similar to Amber Alerts. Alerts must include descriptions of the missing person and other pertinent information. Alerts must be broadcast frequently for the first three hours and at intervals deemed appropriate thereafter. The Missing Persons Unit in the Division of State Police, in consultation with the Department of Transportation, will develop procedures for using overhead changeable message signs to aid in locating missing persons.
