New Jersey A1901 amends the eligibility criteria for certain civil service and pension benefits for veterans. The bill eliminates the requirement that a veteran must have served during specific wars or other periods of emergency, and, in certain instances, that a veteran must have served in a war zone. Instead, it requires federal active service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces or a Reserve component thereof. The benefits in the bill include a civil service preference, a veteran's retirement allowance, and the purchase of additional military service credit.
