Introduced Text

New Jersey A1877 extends eligibility for fire department positions to members of the NJ National Guard or reserve component who meet age requirements.

New Jersey A1877 amends existing law to ensure that members of the New Jersey National Guard or reserve component of the United States Armed Forces retain eligibility for fire department positions if they meet the maximum age requirement at the closing date of a civil service examination. This provision mirrors the current law for police department positions. Members called to active federal military service before the expiration of their civil service list can apply for placement on a subsequent list within 12 months of the original list's expiration.
