New Jersey A1853 requires institutions of higher education to place an automatic external defibrillator in each athletic facility and student center. These defibrillators must be in an unlocked location with a sign and accessible during operating hours. The bill mandates that at least two staff members trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillator use be present during these hours. Institutions must also ensure the defibrillators are tested and maintained according to manufacturer guidelines and notify emergency services of their location.
