The New Jersey Safe Haven for Protection of Domestic Companion Animals Act allows any person to voluntarily and anonymously deliver a domestic companion animal to a shelter, pound, veterinary hospital, or police station. The person delivering the animal is not liable for the care or disposition of the animal. The facility must provide necessary care and may place the animal with an adoptive owner. The Commissioner of Health must establish an educational and public information program to promote safe placement alternatives for domestic companion animals.
