New Jersey A1642 protects authorized medical cannabis patients from adverse employment actions.

New Jersey A1642 establishes protection from adverse employment actions for authorized medical cannabis patients. Employers cannot refuse to hire, bar, discharge, or discriminate against these patients unless they prove the use of medical cannabis impairs job performance. Employers must offer a chance to explain a positive cannabis test result and allow a retest at the employee's expense. The bill does not restrict employers from prohibiting substance use during work hours or actions that violate federal law.
