New Jersey A1639 amends existing laws to ensure that owners of self-driving motor vehicles comply with compulsory automobile and motor vehicle insurance requirements. The bill extends the mandate to include self-driving vehicles capable of operating without active human control. It also amends the definition of "automobile" under the New Jersey Automobile Reparation Reform Act to include self-driving private passenger automobiles.
