New Jersey A1626 prohibits higher education institutions from using cultural competency or knowledge of ethnic or religious groups as criteria for.

New Jersey A1626 prohibits institutions of higher education from considering a candidate's cultural competency skills or knowledge of any particular ethnic or religious group when making employment or promotion decisions. Institutions found non-compliant by the Secretary of Higher Education will lose eligibility for state support for operational and capital costs. Exceptions apply to positions where cultural competency or knowledge of a specific ethnic or religious group is essential, as determined by the Secretary of Higher Education. The bill takes effect immediately.
