New Jersey A162 requires public and nonpublic schools to ensure at least one portable anti-choking device is available in the cafeteria, school nurse’s office, and other similar locations. These devices must be in unlocked and easily accessible places during school hours and events. Each school board must develop policies for using these devices, including training for school nurses and employees in airway management and device use. The Department of Education will reimburse schools for implementation costs and can accept private or nonprofit contributions to help defray expenses.
