New Jersey A1540 mandates a red tag warning to unplug products with electric motors and batteries when not in use.

New Jersey A1540 requires sellers, lessors, renters, and distributors of low-speed electric bicycles, low-speed electric scooters, motorized bicycles, motorized scooters, motorized skateboards, and lithium-ion or storage batteries to affix a red tag to the charging cord. The tag must warn users to unplug the product when not in use. The Division of Consumer Affairs must post a model tag on its website for compliance. The act takes effect 180 days after enactment.
