Allows retired teachers to return to employment for up to two years without reenrolling in TPAF and provides tax relief for rehired teachers.

This bill allows a teacher who retired from the Teachers’ Pension and Annuity Fund (TPAF) to return to employment for up to two years without reenrolling in TPAF. The board of education can hire the retired teacher on a contractual basis, provided the teacher meets certain salary criteria and is the only qualified and available person for the position. The bill also provides gross income tax relief for rehired teachers, including a deduction of 50 percent of their salary and a tax rate of 1.4 percent on the remaining salary.
