New Jersey A1287 establishes a minimum acreage goal and schedule for prescribed burns in the pinelands area and Statewide. The bill mandates that the Department of Environmental Protection ensure prescribed burns occur annually, starting with 25,000 acres in the pinelands area and 10,000 additional acres Statewide in the first year, increasing to 50,000 acres in the pinelands area and 20,000 additional acres Statewide by the sixth year. The prescribed burns must be completed between November and March, prior to the wildfire season.
